SHOP NOWThin, bare, hard-to-walk-on grass needs rejuvenating. Over-seeding can strengthen lawns, making it harder for weeds to grow in thicker-set grass. Seeding too close to a frost can mean frozen roots, which can’t absorb water. So, always wait until daily temperatures are consistently 15 – 26 degrees C°
Step 1
Mow on the lowest setting and rake
Step 2
Apply a fresh layer of soil
Step 3
Add the right lawn seed*
Step 4
Feed with starter fertilizer immediately before or after seeding
Step 5
Water daily until seedlings are 5cm tall* water earlier in the day to prevent seeds
from rotting
* For best results always read and follow label instructions
Timing/temperature
Seed germinates best during Fall and Spring when temperatures are 15° C- 26° C.
Water daily to keep the soil surface moist for the first two weeks. Different seed types have different germination times. Refer to the packaging for best results.
Watering
Most lawns need 3 to 4 centimeters of water per week to soak the soil. You can
apply that amount on one watering or spread it over two. Be sure not to overwater.
Early morning is always the best time to water.
Size of lawn
Know your lawn size. Every package tells you how much it should cover. Most offer
2 different coverages: one for a seeding a new lawn and one for over-seeding on an
existing lawn. Apply the appropriate coverage for the task. Remember that over
applying grass seed can hinder germination.
Bare patches in a lawn can be an eyesore. Fixing them can be easy. Most patching products combine grass seed with other key ingredients to speed up germination and seedling growth.
Prep
Identify the area to be repaired. Remove any dead grass or debris with a rake and
loosen the soil. If the area has been impacted by dog urine, use specially formulated
patching products designed for those areas.
Apply
Apply a thin layer to the area not more than 3mm high. Remember, over-applying
can inhibit the germination of the grass seed.
Water
Watering is the most important step for germination and new growth. Most patch
repair products include mulch which turns dark brown when fully watered. Once this
is a lighter shade of brown, it’s then time to water again. Monitor moisture amounts
daily for 2 weeks.
