Feeding plants

Native soil often lacks the nutrients required for plants to reach their

full potential. Regular feeding ensures beautiful blooms and fruit while
building your plants’ resistance to harsh weather and disease.

It’s all about the nutrients
Plant food delivers three main nutrients to plants: Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium.

Nitrogen (N):
helps fuel plant growth

Phosphorus (P):
promotes root development while increasing blooms

Potassium (K):
helps plants ward off disease while withstanding stressful growing conditions

Plants also benefit from additional nutrients, like caläum and magnesium, which are included in many foods.

Plant food typically comes in two different forms:

Slow-release granules

Water-soluble powders & liquids

Water-soluble powder & liquid plant food

With these types of plant foods, the feeding happens when you water. For example: Miracle-Gro® Water-Soluble All-Purpose Plant Food can either be mixed in a watering can or delivered through your garden hose with the Miracle-Gro® Garden Feeder attachment.

While water-soluble foods require more frequent application (every 7 – 14 days) than slow release fertilizer, the nutrients reach plants quicker.

Slow-release plant food

These types of plant food, like Miracle-Gro® Shake ‘N Feed All-Purpose Plant Food, typically come in granular form, and the nutrients are slowly released over time. Mix directly into the soil surrounding your plants.

No matter what kind of plant food you choose, be sure to follow the directions on the label for the best results.
